My Service on the Economic Development Commission

I’m committed to rolling up my sleeves and volunteering to make our Town a better place.

I was appointed to the Economic Development Commission on June 26, 2023. I served as Clerk and then as Vice Chair.

The EDC does a lot including:

  • Maintaining Partner Relationships with:
    • Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation (GBIC), with Sam Andersen providing regular updates
    • Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce (LCRCC)
    • Small Business Administration (SBA), particularly regarding disaster loan programs following 2023 flooding
  • Advising on the Economic Development Strategic Plan RFP and Report
  • Supporting Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economic Collaborative (VOREC) grant application which was later named the Keystone trail project
  • Participating in Explore Essex

Some of my direct contributions to the commission include:

  • Town Plan action items, such as:
    • Increasing and diversifying the tax base through industrial and commercial development
    • Supporting existing industrial parks (CVTIP, Saxon Hill, Gauthier)
    • Encouraging infill development and entrepreneurship
  • Encouraging entrepreneurship, establishing partnerships with neighboring communities, and creating development plans for areas like Fort Ethan Allen.
  • Establishing a monthly business outreach program -- just a few of the businesses visited:
    •   Myti
    •   Chapin Orchard
    •   Growing With Wonder (childcare facility)
    •   Hannaford
    •   Uncommon Coffee
    •   Paul Mazza's Farm
    •   Brown’s River Maple
    •   John Leo & Sons
    •   Aviatron
    •   Prolytix
    •   Salt & Bubbles
  • Wrote and passed a resolution to the Planning Commission to change zoning regulations to include childcare as an allowed use throughout the town.
  • Introduced an ordinance to regulate temporary signage and remove that topic from zoning regulations.
